3. Discuss the definition of health presented in this
chapter in terms of their implications for the health care delivery system.

The absence of disease or illness is defined as health. With
the implication being that the health delivery system focuses more so on
treatment and diagnosis instead of prevention of diseases.

4. What are the main objectives of public health? Objective
of Public health is to fulfill society’s interest in assuring conditions to
which people can be healthy. Also, to promote health for the society.

7. The Blum model points to four key determinants of health.
Discuss their implications for health care delivery. The four key determinants
are Medical care-the health care delivery system i.e. having access and
available service. Lifestyle attitude towards health the behaviors. Heredity
current health status and lifestyle practices which would likely have impact on
future generations.

9. Discuss the main cultural beliefs and values in American
society that have influenced health care delivery and how they have shaped the
health care delivery system.  The main
culture beliefs and values of the American society the advancement of science
used to help with the creation of the medical model. As a capitalist society
for the economic good. Values with the concern for the poor, elderly and
disabled.  American society is a free
enterprise however, and there tends to not be much trust in the government.

10. Briefly describe the concepts of market justice and
social justice. In what way do the two principles complement each other and in
what war are they in conflict in the US system of health care delivery?

Considering that health markets are good at providing health
resources and how the economic good is delivered is market justice. Determining
factors being the people’s ability to pay for medical care, the access to get
to services. Social justice has the governments involvement especially when it
comes to deviating out services. The social justice system is seen as a right
for people, and that all citizens should have equal health care delivery and access.
In the US there is really no set system used, however there are several countries
that lean more towards the social justice system.  Market justice system is more like the insured
middle class working individuals with insurance through their employer. Furthermore,
an example of social justice would be the uninsured, Medicaid, Medicare and things
like worker’s compensation.

11. Describe how health care is rationed in the market
justice and social justice systems.

Health care is rationed through money the ability/inability
to pay and cost in market justice system. Two forms of rationing are
price-rationing and demand side rationing. Those unable to pay due to low
income, the uninsured many times cannot receive healthcare services when need
and if services received often of poor quantity. The social justice system
typically minimizes the supply of services.

14. How can health care administrators and policymakers use
the various measures of health status and service utilization? Please
illustrate your answer.  Many measures
are used to measure health status and service utilization they include: individuals
self-perception, statistics and calculated health status.
